Roof Gardens & Terraces
Before
This 3rd floor roof garden was very exposed to the elements of the sea and the sun. The old plants were wind battered and straggly. With a hard pruning they came back beautifully.
A mature lemon tree was craned into place in the centre and a covering of small white pebbles over a membrane conserve the water and keep the bed clean and tidy.
Country Gardens
Before
Over the years we have worked on projects such as this one. Starting with a blank canvas and filling it with drought tolerant planting and structures such as access steps, flower filled terracing and areas for 'al fresco' dining and relaxing in. Whether you have lawns or beds or rocks or water, we can maintain and look after your garden for you.
Often you will inherit a garden with your property which may contain trees or plants that need specific care or may not be familiar to you. We specialise in Mediterranean species and know just how to make them perform at their best.

Herb Garden
Whilst digging over the existing herb patch we decided to extend it a little. Working together in the garden with my client we have created our own take on a French 'Parterre': a formal garden and crossed it with a 'Potage' a garden which combines fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers. We have started planting small specimens and will continue to add to it over the springtime. A local Blacksmith helped us with the iron surrounds for each bed and we installed a 'pop-up' watering system. We are controlling the snails with broken egg shells and mulching with home made compost.
A Year in the Life of a Country Garden
We took on this garden in the Autumn. It had seen a long hot Summer and needed a good clear out to prepare for the next Spring. We cut back all the overgrown shrubs and trees including the Palm and got rid of the weeds. We redefined the edges of the beds and cut small beds around the shrubs in the lawn to allow the plants to receive water. We added screening to the fencing to provide an attractive backdrop for the plants as they grew.................... and they grew!
This Autumn we cut it all back again, but no as severely, for the Winter ready for another Summer in the sun.

New Bed Required
This lawn had been planted over rubble with a very thin layer of soil. The owner wanted it replaced with a flowerbed as there is not much colour in this area of the garden. The grass sods were removed and the earth dug over. New top soil was added and herbs and shrubs were planted into the scheme with the existing planting. Old Oleanders and Bougainvillea at the back of the bed were cut back and should return to bring cover to the wall. A membrane topped with bark was laid to keep weeds down and maintenance to a minimum. The stone edge to the bed was sourced within the garden allowing it to blend in with the garden and keeping the costs down. The bed is served by an extension to the existing garden watering system.
Urban Gardens
We look after many villas and apartments in the beautiful Bel Resguard Complex in Puerto Pollensa. These gardens mainly consist of 'jardineras' (built on planters as pictured here), very hot roof terrace areas and sometimes a small lawn too.
We salvage the existing plants and watering systems where possible and add new ones to each owners individual taste. The low maintenance option of having pebbles on top of a membrane is a popular choice. This both contains the soil and keeps down the weeds.
Maintaining the watering systems with electronic programmer is a must for these gardens.

Jardinera Makeover
Without water, the old plants on this roof terrace had almost given up. The soil was enriched, the old shrubs cut back hard and the spaces filled with additional planting for colour, height and also to grow over the pergola to provide shade. The watering system was repaired and serviced.
Covered Jardinera
This tiny garden is on the first floor outside a bedroom window. It has a roof so receives no rainwater. There is a watering system for use in the extremely hot Summers. With not much light the plants struggled, moss grew over the soil and a water snake had taken residence! (Luckily he was captured the morning before I arrived.) The old plants were removed except the large fan palm as it provides a nice screen to the neighbouring terrace. The soil was dug over and improved with additional top soil and fertilizer. A membrane was laid over the soil and an assortment of slow growing plants were planted as the owner wanted the light to flow into the room inside and not be obstructed by giant plants such as the Pampas Grass originally there. Large white stones were added to brighten up the scheme.
Rejuvenation of Terraces without Water
A simple clearance of weeds and dead plants, recycling of existing pots and living plants, followed by new soil and succulents has given this roof terrace and 'jardinera' a new, clean look. A quick visit twice monthly ensures the weeds don't return and the plants stay healthy.
Orange Tree Garden
The lawn had grown into the border hedge and up around the orange tree. The lawn was cut, edged and then regularly fertilized. The tree was pruned into shape and the base filled with stones to keep water in. Over the last couple of years the hedge and tree have matured and the tree bore massive Navel Oranges this Winter. The garden is serviced by a private watering system and maintained twice monthly.
Mountain Top Garden
These two little beds (Pictures 1 and 2) are in the front of a villa over looking the Port. They were high and dry with no watering system to keep them alive. Bed 1 was revitalized with new soil and more plants and a watering system was installed and serviced by the existing outside tap. Bed 2 was transformed into a contemporary, gravelled space with classic planting. These palms, Cycas, are a pre-historic palm which will survive extreme heat and dryness. They are slow growing and will keep their form beautifully. A dropper system was incorporated for them on the watering system to keep them at their best.
Pots & Patios
If you have a town house garden, patio, roof terrace or even a balcony there is no reason not to enjoy a green space outside.
You can grow anything from geraniums to olive trees in pots. These can be manually watered or can be fed by an automatic, battery operated timer.
Cacti and succulents will survive in pots with only the natural rain water. You will see them change in size, shape and colour each season as they adjust to the climate.

'Temporary' Garden
Whilst waiting for builders to come in later this year, this client wanted a temporary garden which can be transferred into the new scheme and will look pretty until then. By simply recycling the pots, utilizing the old watering system, keeping some of the original plants, adding fresh planting and a few more pots, this was achieved. The brief of 'Pink & Flowery' has been met with geraniums, patio roses, lavender and stocks. Also incorporated is a well stocked herbs garden and the lemon and orange trees have been pruned and fertilized and will be flowering soon and will provide fruit for Winter harvesting.
Before & Afters
This old palm sadly needed replacing. The new pots are serviced by a watering system.
The plants in this 'jardinera' were pruned and Creeping Rosemary was planted in to fill the gaps. The watering system was cleaned and repaired.
